South Bromsgrove high school summer refurbishment

Earlier this year we were approached by South Bromsgrove school to look at new lockers for the entire school. The existing metal lockers had recieved quite a lot of damage and the school were concerned that they were no longer secure. We offered laminate door lockers as a good long term solution as these are virtually unbreakable. The customer asked us to explore the possibility of refurbishing the old lockers instead of buying new and including laminate doors. We thought this was a great challenge and set about modifying the lockers to include lamiante doors. This was a tough excersise and our industry leading expertise was called upon at every stage in the process but the result was brilliant and the old tired looking  school lockers look as good as new.

The jumeriah Carlton Tower hotel in Knightsbridg

The Jumeriah contacted us earlier this year after hearing about us from another prestigious London hotel. They wanted us to come up with locker rooms that offered increased capacity but with a more upmarket feel. In answer to this we supplied 300 of our fantastic Varsity laminate lockers. These lockers look great and with steel frames they are really affordable. They also wanted us to assist in removing and disposing of their old lockers. Instead of simply throwing these away we donated these perfectly good storage lockers to a local high school who really needed them for their new intake.

This was a challenging project as we were often working in pretty tight spaces along with other trades but the end result was great.

Merry christmas and a happy new year to you all from the team here at the Lockertek group. 2011 has been a fantastic year for us and it’s thanks to the support from our customers and suppliers.

Our new fleet of Citroen Berlingo vans has arrived. These offered a great load capacity with an excellent repuation for reliability and value. Our new transit vans for larger installations will be here mid September.

Is it me or is customer service just getting worse all the time. My car recently decided to flash up numerous diagnostic warnings with symbols I had never heard of. So I took it to my local dealer who were frankly so put out by the fact I was there that they decided to ignore me for 10 minutes while talking about Jordans new fella. Thats not all I’m still waiting (over a week) for my mortgage company to call me back to discuss spending more money with them. I bought a new label writer for our office recently which is supposed to integrate with our accounting software. It didn’t work so after calling somewhere in India five times I was promised a call back from a product specialist in the UK and guess what, Still waiting. I’m not sure where it all went wrong but it’s certainly strengthened my resolve to make sure our customers never experience the same level of contempt that I have.

So next time you need storage lockers, Locker locks, or locker service then call us I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

We have finally done it. The tired looking old Lockertek has gone and our fresher more colourful one has arrived. We wanted something colourful and business like. We would love to hear your feedback.

So you have bought your shiny new lockers and now you’d like to fit them against a wall. It’s not rocket science but there are a few things to be aware of when doing so. Firstly It makes sense especially if you are a school or public premises to place your lockers in an area of high foot fall. This will help to reduce future damage and vandalism to the lockers as there are people about. If you are planning to install the lockers into a coridoor then its essential that you leave a large gap between the locker and the other wall 1.5 meters is recommended to allow for peeople opening the locker doors. This could also affect things like Fire audits.

Once you have found the perfect location to site the lockers you need to ensure you have the right fixings and tools for the job. For concrete, brick and block walls then you’ll need raw plugs and screws and for plasterboard walls you’ll need drywall fixings and screws. When fixing to plasterboard we recommend the metal screw in drywall fixings as in our opinion they feel more solid.

The first thing to do is to fix your first locker (or nest of lockers to the wall). You then need to measure where your next locker or nest is going to fit and drill the fixing holes and fit either the Raw plug of dry wall fixing. It’s now time to bolt the next locker to the side using  nuts and bolts (nesting bolts). These are normally supplied at no extra cost by you locker supplier. Once the lockers are fixed side to side then you can screw the locker back to the wall for the perfect fit. Repeat this process until the job is finished.

One important tip is to use a wall pipe and wire dectector. these are quite cheap from all good DIY shops and can save you a fortune in remedial works if you hit a water or electrical pipe. Before buying your lockers it always makes sense to measure the room and draw a simple layout to ensure you don’t end up buying more lockers than will fit in the space.

If you get stuck feeel free to contact our planning and installations department and we can advise you free of charge.

What are locker “Nests”

Posted: April 4, 2011 in Uncategorized

When lockers are nested it means they are built together in blocks at the factory. For example a single locker is tall but narrrow which means to aid stability it would be prudent to bolt it to another locker next to it. By nesting you will recive that locker already attached to the next locker. These can’t be separated as they share a single sheet of metal between them but beacuse you are using less material the nest of two locker will be a bit cheaper. You will also save a lots of time as bolting a lot of lockers together is a pain and can take a long time with large quantities.

In the UK lockers are normally only nested up three as they become more difficult to transport in any larger sizes. If your storage lockers are being installed upstairs then ensure that a large lift is available as trying to get a nest of 3 up narrow stairs is a terrible and painful experience. I know this from experience
